When Maria was struggling with postpartum depression, her relationship with Pablo suffered. But by finding support, and learning to take care of themselves and each other, their relationship is now stronger than ever.
Although Maria had been in Canada for over five years, when she became a mom she felt like she was a new immigrant all over again. Maria experienced postpartum anxiety and depression after the births of both of her children and found that the support of other immigrant moms and her own family was essential to her recovery.
Kasimir talks about how he finally realized the best way to support his partner when she was going through PPD/A was to listen to her.
Even before Mariko was able to tell Kasimir what she really needed to recover, the fact that he just listened as she shared her feelings and experiences, without judging or trying to fix it, was extremely helpful.
Allen talks about how important it is to just listen and how hard it is to do. After practicing it with his wife, he can apply it to other parts of his life now, including his relationship with his friends and child.
