Community-based Parent & Baby Talks

Our Society is often invited by community-based organizations like family places, community centres, public health units etc. to hold interactive sharing circles and provide new families with an opportunity to discuss issues related to perinatal and post adoption adjustment.

These sharing circles allow new parents (and their families) to share with others some of the challenges and surprises all new parents face when welcoming a new child.

Creating space to share experiences is an effective tool in promoting prevention, early recognition, and treatment of perinatal and post adoption symptoms. Parents learn self-care strategies to cope with and reduce stress and also where to seek help if needed.

Workshops and Training.

Over the past 50 years, we have developed training modules and workshops for those interacting with new families in the perinatal/post adoption period.

We offer trainings in group facilitation and telephone counselling, as well as basic support skills for postpartum support.

All of our workshop materials are recently updated and revised (funding provided by the Integrated Primary and Community Care, Vancouver Coastal Health).

Topics include:

  • What is Postpartum Depression? Anxiety? Difficult adjustment?
  • Risk factors for PPD/A .
  • The role of parenthood myths.
  • New parenthood’s impact on relationships.
  • Risk management, intake and assessment.
  • Individual support skills and techniques.
  • Basic Group facilitation skills and techniques.

We can also provide on-site training for your organization’s staff and volunteers, in British Columbia or elsewhere. This can be a particularly cost-effective and efficient option for groups.

Please email  [email protected]  or call 604-255-7955 for more information and to discuss options.
