Bounce Back is an evidence-based program designed to help adults experiencing symptoms of mild to moderate depression, low mood, or stress, with or without anxiety. Bounce Back is led by the BC Division of the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) and funded by the BC Ministry of Health.
Bounce Back offers two forms of help. The first is a DVD video (available in English, Mandarin and Cantonese) providing practical tips on how to recognize and deal with depressive symptoms.
The second service is workbook-based with telephone coaching (available in English, French, and Cantonese). Bounce Back community coaches assist in the teaching of problem-solving and other skills to overcome difficulties such as inactivity, unhelpful thinking, worry, and avoidance. Access to the coaching component requires a doctor’s referral.
Chinese Bounce Back is available to people across BC, through referrals from primary care practitioners. The Chinese program has been adapted to be more meaningful to the Chinese community. For more information about Chinese Bounce Back, call 1-877-318-3098.

This free online workbook, available in Chinese, gives an overview of depression, explains how it can be effectively managed according to the best available research, and gives a step-by-step guide to changing patterns that trigger depression.
In this self-care guide, we show how to use cognitive and behavioural methods to make important changes in thinking and actions that help one to emerge from depression and make it less likely to recur. These methods can be used in combination with depression treatments, increasing their effectiveness. Developed by the Centre for Applied Research in Mental Health and Addiction/BC Mental Health and Addiction Services.

This program is designed to increase awareness and understanding of mental health and to decrease the stigma of mental illness in the Chinese community. We have a Chinese outreach worker to work with a group of Chinese volunteers, to develop various kinds of community mental health promotion activities. Services include support groups conducted in Chinese.
