Volunteer

Volunteering is one of the back bones of Pacific Post Partum. Our volunteers are dedicated and caring individuals, many of whom have lived experience with a tough perinatal adjustment Their service ensures that we can reach as many families as possible. As a very small, grassroots organization we rely on our volunteers in various areas, from social media and fundraising, to front-line support.

We hold Volunteer Information Sessions one or two times a year. During these informal meetings we discuss:

  • The structure, organization and Mission Statement of Pacific Post Partum Support Society.
  • The services we provide.
  • The volunteer opportunities we offer.
  • What we expect from volunteers, and what you can expect from us.
  • An introduction to supporting parents.

After an information session folks are asked to complete a simple application form (we are happy to accept applications by voice or video is this is more accessible for you).

Successful applicants are then invited to join us for a short online training course.

Most of our volunteers choose to join our Telephone Support program but we encourage anyone interested in working with us – from social media to board members – to attend a training.

After completing the online training, Telephone Support Volunteers then spend time apprenticing with staff. This can be done in person or online. Our hours of support are 10am-3pm. We usually look for volunteers to offer 2 hours once or twice a month.

Our model is based on peer support and therefore telephone support volunteers must be parents and having experience in perinatal struggles is also beneficial but not necessary, to the role.

We warmly welcome applications from:

  • Indigenous volunteers
  • BIPOC volunteers
  • 2SLGBTQ+ volunteers
  • Cantonese/Mandarin speaking volunteers
  • Farsi Speaking volunteers
  • Spanish speaking volunteers
  • Volunteers with other languages
